ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
The Vineyard’s Artistic Development Programs are at the heart of our mission, providing ongoing, supported opportunities for emerging and established artists to create new work and take creative risks. Through readings, workshops, residences, and developmental “lab” productions, we tailor our programs to best serve the needs of artists and their work and to guide projects at all stages of development. Many of the plays and musicals we help to develop go on to full production on our stage or at other theatres in New York or around the country.

ROTH-VOGEL NEW PLAY COMMISSION
The Roth-Vogel Commission will be awarded annually to a mid- or late-career playwright, to provide time, support and inspiration to a playwright for a new play they have wished but not yet dared to write. The award seeks to recognize artists whose voices are important to hear in our changing world, and who will be able to attempt something with the award that they may not have otherwise.
COLMAN DOMINGO AWARD
The Colman Domingo Award will be bestowed annually to a multi-faceted Black male or male-identifying theatre artist to provide support and resources to create new work. Recipients are selected directly by The Vineyard and Mr. Domingo and receive a cash stipend, workshops and other developmental opportunities, access to writing and studio space, mentorship, and the ongoing support of The Vineyard.
Each year, Vineyard Theatre offers workshops for theatre artists designed to expand creative approaches and tools for generating new work. These have included Paula Vogel’s Playwriting Boot Camp and her President’s Day Ubu Roi Playwriting Bake-Off, a 6-week Playwriting Workshop with Nicky Silver, and this year’s online Spark Creativity Workshop with Susan Blackwell.
Sponsored by the Noel Coward Foundation.
The Vineyard does not accept unsolicited scripts for consideration. Playwrights may submit full-length scripts through a literary agent or accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a theatre professional (i.e. an artistic director or literary manager at a professional theatre).
