The Vineyard Theatre proudly announces that its 30th Anniversary season will continue with the New York premiere production of THE NORTH POOL, a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Vineyard’s Paula Vogel Award-winning playwright Rajiv Joseph (BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO), directed by Giovanna Sardelli (ANIMALS OUT OF PAPER).  THE NORTH POOL, starring Stephen Barker Turner and Babak Tafti, will begin performances on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at The Vineyard (108 E. 15 St., between Irving Place and Union Square East). In the psychological drama THE NORTH POOL, a high school principal and a Middle-Eastern-born transfer student engage in a politically and emotionally charged game of cat and mouse, with dangerous consequences.

THE NORTH POOL has scenic design by Donyale Werle (Tony winner for PETER AND THE STARCATCHER; BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, BARE); costume design by Paloma Young (Tony winner for PETER AND THE STARCATCHER); lighting design by David Lander (THE LYONS, BENGAL TIGER . . . , THE HEIRESS); and sound design by Daniel Kluger (TRIBES).

Scheduled through March 24, THE NORTH POOL will be performed Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m.

(Director) GIOVANNA SARDELLI directed the world premieres of DEAD ACCOUNTS by Theresa Rebeck at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park; SOMEWHERE by Matthew Lopez and the West Coast premiere of his play THE WHIPPING MAN (NAACP nomination Best Director), both at The Old Globe Theatre; world premieres of Rajiv Joseph’s plays THE NORTH POOL, TheatreWorks; and ANIMALS OUT OF PAPER (Joe A.. Callaway Award for Outstanding Director) and ALL THIS INTIMACY, both at Second Stage Theatre; THE LEOPARD AND THE FOX, AlterEgo Theatre Company; and HUCK & HOLDEN, Cherry Lane Theatre. New York premiere of Lynn Rosen’s APPLE COVE, Women’s Project; world premieres of James McLindon’s SALVATION, Hudson Stage Company; Christopher Wall’s DREAMS OF THE WASHER KING, Playwrights Realm; Lila Rose Kaplan’s WILDFLOWER, Second Stage Theatre; Zoe Kazan’s ABSALOM, Actors Theatre of Louisville Humana Festival; and Adriana Sevan’s TAKING FLIGHT, Center Theatre Group and others. Ms. Sardelli has developed plays with The Lark, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Sundance, The Playwrights’ Center and the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center among others. She spent two seasons as Director of the Shakespeare Sedona Institute and two seasons as the Artistic Director of Studio Tisch. Ms. Sardelli received her MFA in acting from NYU, and is also a graduate of their Director’s Lab. She is on the faculty of the Graduate Acting and Dance Programs at NYU. Giovanna was just named Resident Director at The Dorset Theatre Festival where she’ll be directing the regional premiere of GOOD PEOPLE and DEATH TRAP for this season.
