Vineyard Theatre will host an exclusive celebration of the release of Kate Mulgrew's highly-praised new memoir, Born with Teeth, a breathtaking account of a life lived to the fullest. Ms. Mulgrew – known for her portrayals of strong women on stage and screen, including Red in "Orange is the New Black," Captain Janeway in "Star Trek: Voyager," Katharine Hepburn, and many more -- will read from her new book that Publishers Weekly, in a starred review, calls “an assured gem of a memoir.” The story of her upbringing in a large, eccentric Irish family, of the daughter she gave up for adoption at 22 and went looking for twenty years later, and of the behind-the-scenes details of her accomplished career, Born with Teeth is a deeply moving account of the price and rewards of a passionate life.
Join us as Kate reads from the book and discusses her life in a Q & A with actress, author, producer and television host Rosie O’Donnell, followed by a private reception and book-signing. A copy of Born with Teeth is included with your ticket, and a portion of each ticket purchase is a tax-deductible contribution to support Vineyard Theatre, where Kate last appeared on stage in the world-premiere of Jenny Schwartz’s SOMEWHERE FUN.
“I was blindsided by the fierce intensity, intelligence and grace of this memoir. BORN WITH TEETH is gorgeously written, breathtakingly honest and impossible to put down.”
-Augusten Burroughs, author of Running With Scissors
$150, includes event, copy of Born with Teeth with teeth and book-signing reception.

Did you know The Vineyard has worked with both of these incredible women playwrights?
“I think of them both as dangerous writers,” said Douglas Aibel, the artistic director of Off Broadway’s Vineyard Theater, which has presented both women’s work. “Broadway doesn’t always welcome writers who deal with controversial subjects and write with such heat.”
