A LASTING LEGACY
At the start of our 25th anniversary celebration, Vineyard Theatre received some surprising news: we would receive $25,000 from the estate of Marcia Voronovsky.

Mrs. Voronovsky died in 2006 at the age of 99, and had not been to the Vineyard in recent years; however, we were the only theatre named in her will. According to the executor, she was a "very kind, gentle and benevolent person... she had a special connection with the Vineyard which went back many years."

Marcia attended the MacPhail Conservatory of Music, and studied sculpture at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, before pursuing a career on the stage. She performed with many stock companies, working with such notables as Martha Graham, Norman Bel Geddes, and Margaret Sullivan. One Broadway operetta, entitled My Maryland, changed her life when she met her castmate and future husband, Boris Voronovsky. Later in life, she returned to the visual arts, receiving numerous commissions for sculpture portraits as well as teaching at the 92nd Street Y. As a volunteer with NYU's Institute of Physical Therapy, she worked with disabled children to create sculpture and crafts. She also volunteered by reading to the blind, and was a dedicated member of her temple.

Marcia's generous gift helps us continue to develop and produce innovative and bold theatre. We are most grateful to this special woman whose love of the arts propelled her life, and whose legacy will be honored with each new work that is presented on The Vineyard's stage this season.
