What is a Lab
Production?
The Vineyard launched its Lab Program in order to provide artists with a safe and creative way to develop and complete new works of theatre.
Labs are small-scale productions that rehearse for three weeks and perform for a limited run that is closed to the press and open to The Vineyard's members only. The focus of a Lab Production is on the storytelling: production values are kept simple and actors often hold scripts to enable playwrights and directors to work and revise throughout the run. Thus Lab Productions aim to provide artists with the best of both worlds — to free them from the commercial and critical pressures of opening a show in New York, while enabling them to see their work fully staged for a smart, informed New York audience. We think it's the best possible tool we can give artists to see bold new works to fruition.
Past Vineyard Lab Productions that went on to receive their world-premiere productions at The Vineyard include Polly Pen's
Bed & Sofa, Tina Landau and Ricky Ian Gordon's Dream
True, and Nicky Silver's Pterodactyls, among others.
We are thrilled that you are going to be a part of the journey of Adam Rapp's
